Receivers are basically a preamp, audio switcher, video switcher, digital audio converter, an AM / FM tuner and amplifiers all built onto one chassis. Some receivers have video processing, HD radio tuner, internet and network audio capabilities and several control options already built-in. Selecting the right receiver can be a particularly daunting task. They need to be matched to your other components from technical design perspective. Many receivers feature built in calibration software. It is better than nothing, but we have found that even the best ones need to be tweaked for maximum performance.
